The people behind this work

Maternal mental health work is only as good as the people doing it. Here is who we are, what we are responsible for, and what qualifies us to do it.

Our people

Leadership, staff and governance

Safe Mothers Initiative is supported by experienced leadership, trained programme staff and a governance board focused on safety, quality and community impact.

In the field

Community health workers and volunteers

Most of our work is not done from an office. It is done by community health workers and volunteers who live in the communities they serve, who speak Krio, and who are known and trusted by the mothers they visit.

They run door to door sensitisation, notice when a mother is struggling, and walk with her to her first support group. They are the reason this organisation reaches anyone at all.

Join them

Safeguarding

Everyone who has direct contact with mothers or children completes a safeguarding check and our confidentiality training before they start, staff and volunteers alike. Our safeguarding lead is named in each relevant profile.

We post openings here and on our social channels. Volunteer roles are open year round.
