Every story on this page is shared with the written, revocable consent of the person who told it. Names are withheld unless she asked for hers to be used.
I thought something was wrong with me as a mother. At the support group I heard four other women describe exactly what I was feeling. That was the first day I slept properly in months.
The support group meetings have been life-changing. I now understand that postpartum depression is real and I'm not alone. The volunteers who facilitated the group showed me compassion when I needed it most.
Working with Safe Mothers Initiative has helped me better identify and support mothers experiencing emotional challenges after delivery. The training equipped me with skills I use every day in my community health work.
Since receiving the screening training from SMI, I've been able to identify mothers at risk of postpartum depression during their postnatal visits and refer them to appropriate support services. This has made a real difference in my practice.
Pre-launch: consent process must be operating before any story publishes
A named or photographed story on this page reveals, by context, that the person is a service user of a postpartum depression programme. That is disclosure of health status.
Before anything real goes here: written, specific, revocable consent recorded per story; a default of anonymised or first-name-only attribution; and a documented removal process with a stated turnaround. Section 5.3 of the architecture document sets this out.
