Accessibility statement
Our commitment
This website is for mothers in difficult circumstances, often on old phones and slow connections. If someone cannot use it, we have failed at the only thing it is for. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA.
What we have done
- Colour contrast checked and documented for every colour we use. Our brand green is decorative only, because it does not meet the contrast requirement for text
- Every control is at least 44 pixels, larger than the standard requires, because small targets are hard on a phone
- A visible focus outline on everything you can reach with a keyboard
- The whole site works with a keyboard alone
- Headings in a logical order, with a skip link to the main content
- Form errors explained in plain words, announced to screen readers, with focus moved to the problem
- Animation switched off automatically if your device asks for reduced motion
- Text reflows to 400 per cent zoom without breaking
- The site works without JavaScript, including the helpline information
What is still outstanding
We would rather list these than pretend they are done.
- An independent accessibility audit has not yet been carried out [VERIFY once complete]
- Screen reader testing with NVDA and VoiceOver is in progress
- Some downloadable PDFs may not yet be tagged for screen readers
- Photographs are pending alternative text review
Reading level and language
We write our resource pages in plain English and we are adding Krio summaries to the pages that matter most. If something here is hard to understand, that is a fault worth reporting to us, not a fault of yours.
If something does not work for you
Please tell us. Email safemothersinitiative@gmail.com or call +232 73 727131 and describe what happened. We will reply within [VERIFY] working days, and if we cannot fix it quickly we will find another way to get you what you needed.
